Annual Fall Apple Festival . . . Friday, October 2, 2009, 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. This is the League's most important fundraiser held in coopertion with the City's Department of Recreation and Parks at the War Memorial Plaza on 101 N. Gay Street. Fresh local apples, apple products, fall flowers, tulip and daffodil bulbs, seeds, a Silent Auction, food vendors, and vendors of all kinds are featured. Proceeds go toward the maintenance and upkeep of the Federal period Thorowgood Smith house on 9 N. Front Street and to the daily operations of the Women's Civic League. Help us raise funds for this yearly event - simply print the Fall Apple Festival Sustainers form and help sign up others for donations.

Fall Luncheon...Friday, October 23, 2009. Members and their invited guests will dine together over cocktails and a luncheon with table service at the Towson Golf & Country Club, Phoenix, MD. Events include live entertainment. Reservation required.

is the date for this year's Spring Luncheon. Our annual businees meeting will be held immediately afterward and should conclude by 3:00 p.m. The luncheon begins with cocktails at 11:00 a.m. at the Engineer's Club (Garrett Mansion) on 4 W. Mount Vernon Place. Meal tickets are $28, and for an additional $3, members and their guests may park in the lot just west of the MD Historical Society on W. Monument Avenue. Pictured here at one of our luncheons are Lisa Hurka-Covington, keynote speaker from S.P.E.A.K (Suicide Prevention & Education Awareness for Kids), Governor William Donald Schaeffer and Bertha Pinder (WCL President). Our speaker for 2009 is Katie Callahan-Durcan, Mayor's office Trails and By-ways manager for the Baltimore Heritage Area.

Friday, May 22, 2009 is the date for our annual Day at the Races...At about this time each Spring, members and their invited guests spend an afternoon together in the Jockey Club at Pimlico Race Track enjoying a catered meal with table service and cocktails - and fine horse racing! This year, the League will sponsor the fifth race and will present a memorial silver plate to the winning jockey. The price of tickets is $36 each. Notify the office to reserve seats and provide us with your choice of entree, either the crab cake or the flat iron steak.

  League members should contact the office to make reservations as soon as possible. Plan to arrive at Pimlico Jockey Club house at 11:00 a.m. and stay as long as you like.
